COUNCILLORS approved plans for a house to help fund the restoration of a Grade-II listed terrace yesterday.
Elizabeth Armstrong, of Harewood Grove, off Grange Road, Darlington, was given permission to build a two-storey house in the grounds of the 19th Century terrace, which is divided into flats.
The original plan, for two homes, was revised after objections from English Heritage and thirteen residents.
Members of Darlington Borough Council's planning committee decided to support the revised plan after lengthy debate.
Harewood Grove has become run-down, with several notices being served on the owner by the council.
Much of the work has now been completed, but the building needs long-term maintenance, which it is hoped the new house will fund.
