Shildon's athletes were in action last weekend at the Blaydon XC relays.
The Under-15 Boys team produced the club performance of the day with an excellent victory, taking the Nichol Hunter Trophy. High Jump specialist Michael Wilkinson got the team off to a good start, recording a time over the 2km course of 7.32. 2nd leg runer, Warren Roberts produced the fastest time in the race of 6.51, to put the team into a clear lead. Khalil Thompson then anchored the team home with a time of 7.07.
Earlier in the day, the Under-13 Girls team had two debutantes over the 2km course. The experienced girl of the trio, Natasha Heslop, took the first leg responsibilities, and recorded a time of 9.01. Eleven-year-old Laura Hewitson ran 2nd leg, recording a time of 10.02, with Nicola Wadsworth bringing the team home in 6th place with a time of 10.01.
The Under-13 Boys team also had two debutantes competing, with new recruit Dan Burnage taking the first leg. Dan completed the course in an excellent time of 7.43. Simon Hewitson took over and recorded a time of 8.28, with newcomer, Craig Grainger completing the team picture, recording a time of 8.41, bringing the team home in the bronze placing.
The Under-15 Girls team produced a fifth placing overall, with good performances from first leg runner Natalie Cross (8.56), second leg runner Abby Suffield (8.14) and final leg by Abby Wilson (8.32).
In the Under-17 Boys relay, Matthew Hewitson led the team off over the 3km course, finishing in a time of 12.15. Matthew Lomax took over, and stormed through the field, producing one of the fastest times of the day with 11.24. Jalal Thompson completed the line up with a good run of 12.18, leading the team to eighth place.
In the Senior Mens event, the club fielded two teams. The A team of Paul Best (11.03), Rob Tobin (11.43) and Leigh Towers (11.07) came home in ninth place against very good North-East opposition. The B team of Peter Roe (16.10), Chris Bowron (14.55) and John Gibson (15.11) finished in 26th place.
In the Under-17/Jun/Sen Ladies event, Natalie Owens took the first leg over 3km, recording a time of 13.51. Alex Snook, making her club competition debut then took over and recorded a time of 13.58.
The club, this weekend compete in the first North East Harier League fixture at Meadowfield.
Crook & District
The club's fell running fraternity had a good day at the inaugural Inov-8 mile race in Hamsterley Forest. First back in sixth place was Mike Mallen in 54-46 followed by Phil Carter 57-44, Martin Lowrie 60-28, Gerry Hehir 62-22, Martin Harbisher 66-24, Karen Partridge 72-15 and Allen Purdham 76-52.
At the Richmond 10km Malcolm Ingram did well to finish third O-45 in a time of 38-23, next was John Dennis in 39-38, Phil Carter 39-49, Graham Bradshaw 40-42 and Gerry Hehir 43-21.
