Wilton's 1st team were entertained by Durham University 3rds on Maiden Castle's national standard, water-based pitch which proved to be an eight-goal thriller.
The students struck first finishing a rebound from a mediocre penalty corner after sloppy defending in the first few minutes.
It took a further 15 minutes for Man of the Match Scott Morton to equalise before the students pressured a second.
Top-scorer Rob Walker broke free shortly before the break to crack a ferocious shot home, levelling at half time. The well-drilled students enjoyed long periods of possession but were always susceptible to Wilton's speedy forward line, Walker being felled by the keeper to allow John Tombling to convert the penalty.
The students levelled again and it took Morton to go solo, rounding the last defender and slotting home as Wilton tried to hang on for the victory.
However, the students' pressure paid off as they levelled the game for a fourth time to round off a splendid afternoon of hockey and umpiring. 4-4.
Wilton's 2nd team had a busy weekend having to play on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday they played host to Hartlepool Caledonians 1st team. All started well for Wilton when striker Johnny Couhig scored in the first ten minutes.
Hartlepool are not a team to take things lying down and they battled back with some strong teamwork to level ten minutes later. Wilton looked rather subdued and conceded another five minutes before half-time. At this point it was difficult to see how Wilton were going to get back into it.
At half-time, vice-captain Bob Leason had strong, but encouraging, words to say. It seemed to do the trick as Wilton looked a different team in the second half. It was young Man of the Match, Alex Harrison, who set up first an equaliser, then a winner for hat-trick hero Johnny Couhig. An engrossing and entertaining match that Wilton won 3-2.
On Sunday the 2nd team were at home to Durham side Hild Bede College and registered another victory to claim six points for the weekend.
Unfortunately Wilton 3rds were left gameless for the second week when Gateshead 4ths failed to put out a team. The youthful Sunday team were 4-2 victors at Stockton with a brace each for man of the match Michael Barclay and Dom Binks.
