In Division One, Barnard Castle Glaxo are going great guns and are still unbeaten. They won 5-0 at home to Wallsend Rising Sun.

The first half was fairly even with the Castle having a slight advantage, "Nookie" Proud scoring to give them a 1-0 interval lead.

After the restart the Castle took control Alan Gates heading home a free-kick from Proud to put them 2-0 up. Alan Simpson slotted home the ball from a Kevin Hodgson corner.

A solo run from Gary Hutchinson made it 4-0 and Gates scored his second goal of the match to make it nap for the Castle who now move into third, a point behind the joint leaders.

Consett won 2-0 away to Hartlepool Catholic Club and are now joint leaders with Wardley Green, who have played a game less than the two challengers.

In Division Two, Darlington Railway lost 2-5 away to Whitley Bay. Darlington are having a lean period and although scoring goals are poor in defence and are ending up on the losing end, if their defence can be tightened up, they should soon be winning their matches again.

Langley Park Rams Head have yet to find their time form, they lost 1-2 away to the Willow Pond. Trailing 0-1 at the interval, they went 0-2 down after the restart and only pulled one back late on the game when times was running out. Wynyard Veterans are still unbeaten they won 5-2 at home to Billingham Town, but then three drawn matches means they are in sixth place instead of being top.

In Division Three, West Cornforth continued their winning run by defeating Crook Town 3-1 away from home, they now are in the top of the table and look possible promotion contenders.

In Division Four, Thornley Celtic defeated the leaders Peterlee 2-1 at home and are in third spot and are a viable prospect for promotion if they can sustain this effort. The top six teams all have a definite chance and by the end of the year a clearer picture should evolve, although the top three Peterlee, Steels and Darsley Park are the likely favourites.

As usual the Villa Real Cup 4th round had some unexpected results. The clash of the Titans, Premier leaders Ferryhilll Greyhound and second placed Steels Social Club should have ended with a penalty shoot-out, instead the game was virtually over at the interval as Steels were 6-0 up and eventually ran out 9-0 winners. Steels produced their best effort of the season, Peter Stronach was the architect behind their victory, he was just fantastic and Steels literally tore Ferryhill apart and they were fortunate to be only 0-9 down at the final whistle. It was a game Steels will long remember and Ferryhill will wish to forget. Scorers for Steels were Keith Robertson and Davy Tate a brace each, Peter Stronach and Alan Hurst one apiece and sub Gary Cook a hat-trick. Ferryhill had the misfortune to lose their star player Stan Cummings who had to the leave the field after 10 minutes, suffering from a pulled muscle, John Gardy up front and John Parnaby, midfield, worked tirelessly and literally played their hearts out to no avail for Ferryhill. Norton-Stockton, who have still to find last season's form, lost 2-4 away to Hollywell Fat Ox. The first-half belonged to the Fat Ox who led 4-0 at the break, but after the restart if was Norton who came back into the game and pulled one back with an excellent free kick which gave the keeper no chance. The Fat Ox's defence held firm and it was only in the closing minutes when Norton scored again to make it 2-4.

Newton Aycliffe lost 2-4 at home to Premier side Lord Seaham in a game which showed the difference between the two division. The Lord Seaham just having the edge most of the match.

In the Premier Division, Darlington Croft defeated Usworth 2-0 and now are four places from the bottom, Usworth having replaced them. This was a much improved display and probably heralds the start of a successful run.
