HOUSEHOLDERS may be missing out on free home improvements.
Officials at Stockton Warm Zone fear residents are failing to respond because they are mistaking their staff for door-to-door salesmen operating in the area.
The assessors are calling on householders to check if they qualify for free insulation under the scheme.
Lorraine Dobson, Warm Zone manager, said that Warm Zone employees wear red uniforms, bearing the Warm Zone logo, and always carry identity cards.
"A number of people have contacted us recently because they are confused by a number of other companies offering cut-price insulation measures.
"Stockton Warm Zone is a Government pilot project to tackle fuel poverty which is run by Stockton Borough Council in conjunction with Transco and British Gas.
"Other firms may be offering a good deal, but they do not take account of the fact that some people may qualify for free insulation from the Warm Zone."
Warm Zone staff are working in Stockton's Hartburn ward and will move to the town's Grangefield ward on November 1.
Anyone wishing to check Warm Zone staff identity can call (01642) 391170.
