A man aged 34 remained in hospital last night receiving treatment for a broken left leg after being injured in a hit-and-run accident in Billingham.

The incident happened shortly before 8pm last Friday as the man was crossing Low Grange Avenue, near the Telstar pub. The car failed to stop at the scene and police are appealing for any witnesses to contact PC Andy Blackett, on (01642) 301552.

Death fall: Retired manager Charles Heathcote, 84, died of head injuries after falling out of bed at his home in Warwick Road, Redcar, an inquest heard. Mr Heathcote struck his head on a bedside table, his second fall in days. Assistant Deputy Teesside Coroner Anthony Eastwood recorded a verdict that Mr Heathcote died as the result of an accident.

Witness wanted: Police want to trace a woman driver who may have witnessed a road accident. She was driving a red Peugeot 106, turning right into Bolckow Street, Guisborough, moments before a pedestrian suffered serious head injuries in a collision at about 10.30am on Wednesday. Coffee morning: Redcar and District Friends of Cancer Research UK are holding a coffee morning tomorrow at Marske Leisure Centre, at 10am. Entry is 40p. All proceeds to Cancer Research UK. The organisation thanks people who took part in the Lunchtime Serenade last month, which raised £440.

Lost dog: A Hartlepool family are trying to find their dog, who ran away on October 9. The terrier bitch, which answers to Pickles and has a rough, fawn coloured coat, ran away from Stotfold Farm, Elwick, near Hartlepool. Anyone with information is asked to ring (01429) 273444.

Drugs arrest: Following eight arrests made in Dormanstown, Redcar, during a police drugs raid this week, two men have been cautioned and six other people have been bailed pending police inquiries.
