The weather had an autumnal feel for the start of the Richmond Castle 10k, and a fine misty rain accompanied the runners almost the whole of the way.
The course is scenic but hilly, and Chris Sampson of Morpeth Harriers was the winner in 33.43 minutes. David Read finished in 79th place in 43.14, Ernie Huck 101st in 44.27, Ian Codling 207th in 51.57, Nicola Thorpe 209th 52.06, Fiona Wilson 227th in 53.12, Judith Seaton 252nd in 54.44, Marian Codling 301st in 60.06 and Pamela Sherlock 324th in 62.56. Marian and Pamela won 1st and 2nd prizes in the ladies' V60 category and Ian was 2nd in the men's V60.
The 358 finishers were pleased to get back into the dry of Richmond Town Hall to receive their medal and goodie bag!
Ultra runner, Roy Bainbridge, aged 68, entered in the open section of the World 24 hour Championship in Uden, which would be a gruelling prospect at any age! Roy had hoped to do 100 miles, but illness during the night stage of the event meant he had to re think his target, and he in fact completed 86 miles in the allotted time! The next morning, after a well earned sleep, much to his delight he found that he had been declared category winner, and received acclaim from the French National team, who were staying at the same hotel.
Harriers are reminded that because of half term next week, they should meet at Thirsk Athletic Club for the weekly training session.
