POLICE are appealing for information after a teenager walking with friends in Peterlee town centre was struck by a car which failed to stop.
The incident happened at about 1pm on Thursday as the 15-year-old girl and some friends were crossing Passfield Way, near St Bede's Church.
As they walked across the road, her friends noticed a purple car heading towards them without appearing to slow down.
The other girls managed to get out of the way but the victim, who lives in Hale Rose, in the town, was struck as the car passed.
She was thrown to the ground by the force of the collision but the car did not stop and carried on towards Peterlee town centre.
The vehicle was the size of a Nissan Micra or Vauxhall Corsa, and the driver was female, possibly blonde, according to witnesses.
After being taken to Hartlepool General Hospital for treatment, the teenager was released later in the day.
She suffered slight injuries to her right leg but no bones were broken.
The girl has, however, been left with bruises.
Anyone who saw the incident is asked to get in touch with the investigating officer, PC Brendan Jackson, at Peterlee police station, on 0191-586 2621.
