RESIDENTS say they have been given no warning that football pitches are to be created on parkland near their homes.
Helen Beaumont, of Estoril Road, Darlington, said she was devastated when she saw goalposts being set in concrete on Tommy Crooks Park.
"I was given no warning from the council," she said.
"I'm supposed to be completing the sale of the house by the end of this week and I've told the family moving in that the park is quiet and safe for their two little girls to play in."
Darlington Borough Council said the pitches are being created to meet demand from local people.
A spokesman said letters were hand-delivered to all residents living near to the park, although Ms Beaumont challenged this.
"People are still going to be able to use them for walking and other recreational activities," the spokesman said.
