A BOOK on the history of Northallerton has been published.
Called A Northallerton Miscellany, the book, by Dr David Severs, features various stories about the town and its inhabitants.
It contains transcripts of a financial notebook, kept by a Northallerton architect from 1809 to 1836, in which he records rents being paid in manure, as well as details of the Romanby Football Club roll of honour, which lists the members of the club who died, were injured or served in the First World War.
Dr Severs said: "I have been interested in local and family history, it seems, for all my life. I just put it together to write this book."
The book launch, held at Ottakars, in Northallerton, was attended by the Mayor of Northallerton, Coun- cillor Tony Hall, local historians and friends of the author.
Dr Severs was born in Northallerton and educated at the town's grammar school. He spent more than 30 years in the police force and retired as the Chief Superintendent at Newby Wiske Hall, moving on to study for a doctorate in history from York University.
His first book, Northallerton's Clockmakers, was published five years ago.
A Northallerton Miscellany is available from Ottakar's and Northallerton Book Shop, priced £9.99.
