Golano, who got off the mark at Lingfield last time, is taken to follow up in the Bianca Fashion Handicap over a mile and a half at the same venue today.

From the in-form Chris Wall stable, which has a good record on artificial surfaces this year, the gelding gained due reward for a string of consistent efforts when beating Remembrance over a mile and a quarter when returned to Polytrack last time.

The way in which he stayed on in the closing stages suggested strongly that he should be at least as effective over the extra two furlongs of this competitive event.

As he's only had eight racecourse appearances there could well be better to come and he's taken to get the better of Dance In The Sun, who should also be suited by the step-up to this trip.

The Copthorne Effingham Park Handicap over six furlongs is another open event and it's a race in which the quirky Teyaar is worth another chance.

The seven-year-old has proved to be a frustrating performer on sand in recent times - as illustrated by his poor strike-rate - but he's run two solid races since being switched to Norma Macauley.

He should be suited by the return to this track and trip and he's very well handicapped on the pick of his form on this surface from last winter.

He is taken to beat Star Of Arabia, who should go well if handling this surface.

Jeremy Noseda has a 21 per cent strike-rate on artificial surfaces and his Cracking Rosie looks an interesting runner in division one of the Bet Direct "Red To Bet" Maiden Auction over a mile.

Given that she has plenty of stamina in her pedigree, she was far from disgraced on her sole outing to date over six furlongs at Haydock in July.

That form has worked out well and, although running green that day, she showed enough to suggest she can win in ordinary company granted this stiffer test of stamina.

At Leicester Sahara Storm, who has shown ability on all outings to date, is an interesting runner on her handicap debut in the Gus O'Neill And The Girls Nursery over seven furlongs.

Luca Cumani's filly has conditions to suit, is effective over this trip, is open to improvement and is taken to go very close under Jamie Spencer in what looks an open contest.

Cumani can also be on the mark with Newcastle winner Sandenista, who is also open to plenty of improvement in the Tom Fruit "Pat Eddery Farewell" Handicap over a mile.

In the hope of making up a fair amount of ground in the Racing Post naps competition, the sporting nap is given to Shirleys Quest - who would have strong claims on the form of her Pontefract reappearance run in May - in the seven furlong claimer.

She's been well beaten since but will be suited by the drop to this grade, has gone to a yard capable of improving others' cast-offs and could be suited by the drop in trip. In a bad race she looks worth an each-way interest.

* Saturday will see some of the best staying chasers in the country in action at Wetherby, weather permitting.

A drop of rain would certainly not go amiss at the West Yorkshire venue as it gears up towards one its biggest days of the year.

The feature event is the bet365 Charlie Hall Chase, with the likes of Truckers Tavern, Valley Henry, Chives and Hussard Collonges all possible runners.

It is unlikely any would be risked on really quick ground, but the reappearance of any of the big names would quicken the pulse of any racing fan who welcomes the onset of winter.

Runner-up in the Tote Cheltenham Gold Cup, Truckers Tavern has always been the apple of trainer Ferdy Murphy's eye and the Middleham handler must be praying it comes up soft at Cheltenham in March.

The Phardante gelding loves some cut and did incredibly well to chase home Best Mate in the blue riband on ground plenty fast enough for him.

He is still relatively lightly-raced over fences and is the type who needs one or two runs just to put him right.

But with last year's experience he will be a real force this term given suitable conditions.

''We have made an entry for him in Ireland and I'll be going over next week to look at the ground. We're starting to get a bit panicky now, as he is ready to run,'' Murphy said.

''The plan was for the Charlie Hall but with the way the ground is at the moment, I would think it would be too firm.

''Wetherby's a big track and that makes it very hard for them to water and the last day they raced they had to call off the chase races,'' he continued.

''Ireland is looking more likely - subject to the ground being all right there. We are desperate to get a run into him.''

Hussard Collonges is another old-fashioned chasing type with loads to like about him.
