A TEAM of young people from Darlington has been awarded £11,000 to research future skateboarding, in-line skating and biking facilities in the borough.

The Princes Trust Millennium Group Awards is funding the research by youngsters, aged 12 to 18.

They applied for the funding after carrying out reviews on facilities in the town and talking to others about what they would like to see.

Supported by the council's sports development team and Darlington and District Youth and Community Association, the Ramps Team will use the money to carry out more in depth reviews and surveys.

They will use the information gathered to propose more appropriate facilities.

The team's 15 members were active supporters of, and helped to set up, the council's Get on Board days, which saw biking, blading and boarding roadshows taking place at Darlington's Eastbourne Sports Complex earlier this year.
