SOCCER legend Brian Clough is to be made an honorary Doctor of Science.
Middlesbrough-born Clough, who scored 204 goals in six seasons for the Boro 40 years ago, before he became Nottingham Forest's successful manager, is to be honoured by the University of Teesside.
The former England player and Derby County manager, hailed as one of Boro's best centre forwards, will be given the honorary doctorate on November 28.
He will share the spotlight with Teesside opera singer Susannah Clarke, who sung before the European Championships at Wembley in 1996 and closed this year's Labour Party conference.
Known as Teesside's unofficial ambassador, Miss Clarke will be made an honorary Master of Arts at the Middlesbrough university.
Crown court judge Peter Fox, Recorder of Middlesbrough, who has worked with the university's school of social sciences and law, will receive a Doctor of Laws degree.
ITN's home affairs editor Shulie Ghosh, who was born in Middlesbrough, will received an honorary Master of Arts degree.
Professor Derek Fraser, who stepped down as vice-chancellor of the University of Teesside earlier this year, is also to be honoured. Prof Fraser, the chairman of the Independent Football Commission will be made a Doctor of Laws.
His successor, vice-chancellor Professor Graham Henderson, said all five had clearly demonstrated talent and excellence.
