CHARITIES and good causes in Darlington can look forward to extra help as the Mayor's Charity Shop in the town is expected to exceed its annual fundraising target of £30,000.
Half-year figures of £21,000 have been released, showing takings up on last year.
If the generosity of Darlington people continues, the total for the year could reach more than £40,000.
Darlington Mayor Councillor Ron Lewis has chosen the Darlington and District Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Darlington Young Sportswinner Scheme as his nominated charities this year.
Applications for help from other local good causes are welcome and will be considered monthly by the Charitable Fund Committee.
The shop in Duke Street is run by a team of 18 volunteers.
Coun Lewis said: "For over 30 years, the shop has helped to raise money for the people of Darlington."
Anyone who would like to volunteer to help can contact the shop on (01325) 354826, or the Mayor's Office on (01325) 388363.
