A PRIMARY school has celebrated the opening of an out-of-hours club with a Halloween craft week.
Lambton Primary School, in Washington, is one of several across Wearside that has secured National Lottery funding from the New Opportunities Fund to set up breakfast and after-school clubs.
Headteacher Sue Bell said: "We were delighted when we found out we had been successful in getting the funding.
"The clubs provide a safe place for children to play, which is particularly important now that the winter months are setting in."
Sunderland's Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership helped the schools apply for funding.
The aim of the out-of-school clubs is to support working parents with childcare and provide children with a safe place to play and learn.
Children at Lambton spent the first week of their new clubs creating masks, witches and spiders for Halloween.
