AGENCIES across Hambleton are working together to ensure a safe Bonfire Night for everyone.
The police, trading standards, fire and rescue service and the district council are working with the district's Community Safety Partnership to improve safety around fireworks.
They want to see people opting out of private parties to take part in organised events.
Retailers have already been visited to be given advice on the safe storage of fireworks, and checks are taking place on sales to children.
Schools across the district have been offered information to warn children of potential danger, and exhibitions are being staged in Northallerton's Civic Centre and library.
District fire service manager Owen Hayward said that in the past two weeks, the service had responded to a number of firework incidents.
He said: "I am concerned that the availability of fireworks means that children are at risk of hurting themselves and others.
"I would urge parents to ensure that their children cannot get hold of fireworks. What seems a bit of fun at the time could easily turn to tragedy."
