A FUNDRAISING campaign for St Teresa's Hospice, in Darlington, during the summer was a huge success.
The Sunflower Campaign 2003 raised £5,581 for the work of the hospice.
Schools, businesses and individuals from across the area joined in the fundraising during June, to raise money for hospices throughout the country.
Jane Bradshaw, St Teresa's Hospice director, said: "This is a very important part of the Hospice's fundraising calendar and we are delighted that so many people once again supported us.
"Every penny helps St Teresa's Hospice continue to provide great care and support to those suffering from life limiting illnesses in and around Darlington."
She said that the funds would make a big difference in the run up to the hospice opening a new in-patient unit.
