Technology developed in Durham has been showcased at a science event at the House of Commons.
Durham Scientific Crystals (DSC) took part in the Set for Britain event, a gathering to promote UK science, engineering and technology.
The Northern Echo reported last week how DSC has beaten worldwide competition to develop a new method of manufacturing semi-conducting crystals.
This is expected to have a range of applications, including enhancing security equipment at airports.
DSC, a spin-off company from the University of Durham, discovered how to produce semi-conducting crystals from vapour rather than liquid, which erases traditional problems of contamination caused while making the product.
Managing director Dr Arnab Basu said: "The event at the House of Commons was a great opportunity for us to promote the technology and to put Durham on the map as a centre of scientific interest."
