Although club competitions are not very common at this time of year week in and week out, the elderly gentlemen continue to take their exercise on Friday morning and this week's competition was a scramble and was won with a score of 61.2 by the team of Messrs Kitching, Bradley, Lister and Young (6.8 hcp).
In second place with a score of 62.1 came the team of Messrs Knapton, Nicholson, Brook and Brockbank (6.9 hcp). In third place with a score of 62.4 came Crow, Raine, Brunskill and Tasker (7.5 hcp).
Harrogate Union
Congratulations to Trevor and Roger Hole who came second in the winter alliance played at Pannal golf club with a score of 44 points.
* Ian Pemberton, the course manager took a day's holiday to compete in the Cleveland section of the Greenkeepers Association played recently at Middlesbrough golf club. Although Ian does not consider himself more than an occasional golfer, he returned a net 65 and claimed top spot.
To complete his day he also won the prize for the most points on the Par Threes. Ian felt that his day's holiday had been well rewarded but he does not think he will be playing the noble game any more often.
Bainbridge Shield

With points awarded on a home and away basis, this year's competition was won by Romanby golf club with 30 points followed by Bedale with 28, Thirsk and Northallerton 24, Knaresborough 19.5 and Ripon 18.5.
The trophy was presented to Romanby golf club at a dinner following a social round of golf held this year at Knaresborough golf club to mark the end of the season.
