Spraire Lasses: Lasses suffered their heaviest defeat of the season at home to a well-organised South Durham Royals.

Spraire, without three key players, were put under pressure from the start with the Royals hitting the crossbar twice in the first half. Spraire came close to scoring when Laura Gowling hit the side netting following a cross from captain Jordan Atkinson. Spraire keeper, and player of the match Katie McTague, was forced to pull off some outstanding saves to keep a clean sheet until the 25th minute when Durham opened the scoring with a neatly taken goal.

Spraire's 3-3-1 formation was put under constant pressure after the break and found it difficult to break down a strong Durham defence. Durham wrapped up the afternoon comfortable 6-1 winners following five well taken goals in the second half, Jordan Atkinson scored a consolation goal for Spraire after her first attempt was stopped by the Durham keeper. Laura Spence was awarded the manager's merit award for her performance in central defence.

Darlington Spraire Lasses Under-16s were on good form against Boldon but unfortunately, fielding one player short, proved to be too big an obstacle.

The first of Darlington's three goals came from a move started by Claire Moses kicking up the field to find Danni Shutt who crossed in to a scramble in front of the goal mouth. The ball fell to Brogan Prodhoe who neatly placed the ball in the back of the net.

The second goal, an absolute scorcher, came in the second half with Darlington applying plenty of pressure Kathryn Clarke received the ball on the half way line and powered the ball into the back of the net.

The third goal came from a Brogan Prudhoe cross finding Danni Shutt in the box who was finally rewarded after numerous attempts with a fine goal.

In defence Jessica Wake and Claire Moses were always there with a foot in the way to spoil Boldon's attack only being passed when Boldon made good use of there extra man.

Tracey Priestley, who volunteered to play in goal, had an outstanding game in difficult circumstances for the undermanned Darlington defence. Final score was Boldon 6, Darlington 3.

Crook Town

Crook Town travelled to Saltburn on Sunday and came home with the three points putting them at the top of the Northern Regional Women's League.

Saltburn opened the scoring on ten minutes through Shelley Taylor, but as Crook got used to a small pitch they drew level with a great goal from Katie Hewitson minutes later. Margaret McAteer got Crook's second when a cross from right back Fay Burn caused havoc in the Saltburn penalty area and McAteer was left to head the ball home. McAteer also got Crook's third goal, a great strike from a flick on from Nicky Duckling making the score 3-1 at half-time.

The second half started with much the same as a Saltburn move was broken up by Amanda Dodds, the Crook captain, who played the ball through the Saltburn defence to Katie Hewitson who received the pass well and went on to score a spectacular second and Crook's fourth. Crook's next goal came from a corner as a Saltburn player cleared the ball from the area Nicky Duckling waiting on the edge of the box, volleyed the ball through the defence and almost the net as the ball went in for Crook's fifth. New signing Lisa Ward got number six straight from a free kick. She only joined Crook Town last week and to score with such a goal put a smile on everyone's face, especially manager Alan Dodds.

Sunday, November 2 sees Crook Town take on Darlington RA, kick-off 2pm at Millfield Ground, Crook. Everyone welcome.

South Durham Royals

The Under-12 Royals had two victories on Saturday winning 8-1 against North Shields and 9-0 against Cleveland Hall.

Kelly Gibson scored a hat-trick and other goals came from Wray, Cantwell, White, Main and Rickens.

Girls Under-13 Royals were looking to follow last week's victory in the cup but expected a hard match against Spraire Lasses.

Rebecca Pattinson opened the scoring for Royals after 20 minutes. Holly Taylor hit the bar and post but at half time it remained 1-0.

After the break Royals took control of the game and played some excellent football. Pattinson completed her hat-trick and further goals came from Vicky Wray and two from Holly Taylor. Spraire pulled one back but the final score was 6-1. Sterling defence work from Alex Saunders and Jade White and midfield tenacity from Calli Hogarth contributed to a well deserved victory. Next week sees a top of the table clash with Sunderland.

Following last week's cup victory against Cleveland Hall the Ladies took on Marton at home. Marton took the lead in the first five minutes after a defensive slip. Tracey Swales levelled the scoring after taking the ball past the Marton defence and lashing her shot past the keeper. Marton scored after half time but Swales again levelled the score for Royals after a cross took a deflection into the Marton net.
