Darlington Mayor Councillor Ron Lewis has held a tea party for winners of a school competition.
Children from Darlington primary schools entered a competition to design a T-shirt promoting road safety, to coincide with Walk to School week, earlier this month. The winners received T-shirts with their designs from the mayor on Wednesday.
During Walk to School week more than 8,000 pupils wore reflective yellow jackets, provided free by Darlington Borough Council, and walked to school.
"The Walk to School week was hugely successful and I am really pleased to see the children taking an active interest in road safety through this competition," said Councillor Nick Wallis, cabinet member for highways and transport.
"As the nights are now drawing in very rapidly it is a good opportunity to remind parents and carers that the children now have the yellow reflective jacket that can be worn when they return to school after the half-term break."
The following children received T-shirts: Amy Rutter, Abbey Infant School; Melissa Hodgeson, Abbey Junior School; Connor Ruth, Alderman Leach Primary School; Polly Quincy, Bishopton/Redmarshall Primary School; Emily Scott, Cockerton Primary School; Ashley Swales, Corporation Road Primary School; Abigail Bohanan, Dodmire Infant School; Nicholas Wiper, Dodmire Junior School; Grace Airey, Guerney Pease Primary School; Alisha Warren, Harrowgate Hill Infant School; Ryan McDonald, Harrowgate Hill Junior School; Nicole MacKenzie, Heathfield Primary School; Mary MacAneney, Heighington Primary School; Ella Mae Bussey, Holy Family RC Primary School; Lauren McLoughlin, Hurworth Primary School; Alana Peaurt, Mount Pleasant Primary School; Jack Pickering, Middleton St George Primary School; Hannah Matthews, Mowden Infant School; Michael Haln, Mowden Junior School; Daniel Frankland, North Road Primary School; Crystal Holiday, Raventhorpe Primary School; Emily Chipchase, Reid Street Primary School; Rachel Venables, Rise Carr Primary School; Jodie Appleyard, Sadberge Primary School; Shaun Morris, Springfield Primary School; Josephine Humphrey, St Augustine's Primary School; Emily Toulson, St Bede's Primary School; Chelsea Ripley, St John's Primary School; Gareth Roper, Whinfield Infant School; Adam Howe, Whinfield Junior School.
