Brompton Juniors: Brompton Under-10 A, weakened due to holidays and illness, put up a magnificent display against top-of-the-table Teesside Athletic C at Redcar.
The first half was a very evenly matched contest with the half-fit David Holmes defending well alongside Thomas Armstrong and Chris Holmes in central defence. Teesside Athletic dominated the possession during the first half, but were repulsed repeatedly by this new three-man defence. Midfield pairing of David Foster and Joe Richards supported well by Mark Watkinson made the most of the few breaks that came their way. David Holmes was replaced midway through the first half by Jack Cullen who slotted in the left back place with confidence. Minutes before half-time Teesside Athletic's pressure resulted in a goal from an untidy goal mouth scramble. Half-time score 1-0 to Teesside Athletic.
Midway through the second half Teesside scored 2 quick goals from defensive breakaways, one of which resulted the Brompton keeper, Lee Taylor, sustaining a hand injury after a collision with the upright. He was replaced in goal by Joe Richards who filled in brilliantly for the last 5 minutes of the game. Final score Teesside Athletic 3 Brompton 0.
After last week's win at 21st Allstars, Brompton Under-16s should have been in confident mood for their rescheduled fixture at West Redcar, however they started slowly and paid the price going one-down after ten minutes.
Brompton were given a wake up call in the first minute of the second half when Redcar's tricky number 16 nicknamed Swanny alias Stephen Green fed the number 10 for Redcar's second.
Finally Brompton started to play against their eager opponents with Eddleston getting Brompton's first effort on goal.
The game was Redcar's after 20 minutes of the second half with Swanny again the provider, feeding another forward for their third goal.
In a disappointing game Glahome stood out as Brompton's man of the match with captain Brockhurst also showing well to get runner up.
Norton and Stockton Ancients
Stockton Under-12s dominated their game with Teesside Athletic from start to finish with some excellent passing and movement worthy of a Brazilian team. The first goal came from a corner where centre back Chris Craven rose above everyone to thunder the ball home.
Less than a minute later some great movement down the right flank by Adam Siddle found JJ Tucker who pulled off the exact same move Denise Bergkamp is famous for, to score the first of his three.
Before half time approached two more goals where scored, one from a set piece which cleared everyone except Karl Sharp how sneaked in at the back post to tap in and second for Craig Deighton to put an end to a goalmouth scramble.
The second half started the same with Craig Deighton adding to his list as well as JJ Tucker twice, one which was laid on a plate by Scott Tayor square ball.
At this point one would have thought Teesside would give up but to give them credit they battled on, then man of the match John Pattison went on a solo run dribbling his way from the back all the way to end up finishing like a true striker.
To round of the game Reece Connelly picked up the ball from a defensive clearance on the left and cooly slotted the final goal, to make the final sore 9-0.
Norton Under-8s were very slow at starting against Brinkburn and conceded a goal mid-way through the first half. Norton produced some outstanding football in the second half however, with man of the match Matthew Dixon scoring a spectacular goal and helping to set-up the winning goal for Tom Hill. Harry Bulmer had a great run and got brought down but failed to score. Final score was Norton 2, Brinkburn 1.
The Under-10 B's good run continued with a 6-0 home victory over Stockton Athletic. Liam Woodhouse opened the scoring but the score remained 1-0 at half-time despite good efforts from Tom Blakemore and Daniel Chesser. In the second half, Norton took control with goals from Lewis Wing, David Roth (2). Patrick Nelson, Michael Bond and Aiden Cattermole came on and did well with Cattermole scoring a brace. Josh Peaden hit a post late on and Jack Griffiths kept another clean sheet to help Norton towards a good win.
Norton Under-11s had to come from behind after Marton scored from a poor clearance. Adam Nicholson then scored two great goals to put Norton ahead at half-time. Marton equalised after another bad mistake, then Paul Vaulks and Ben Turner put Norton ahead. Marton pulled another goal back with two minutes to go, but Norton held on for a good win. Adam Nicholson and James Cass had a great game for Norton. Final score 4-3 to Norton.
An Under-13 A Ancients side that had been cut down by illness throughout the week could still muster eleven fit players to play South Bank. Norton started playing well controlled football however the defence came under early pressure but were well organised and managed to break South Banks attacks down. The ball played easy through midfield where O'Sullivan made a surging run finishing with a fantastic long shot put Norton ahead. South Bank reorganised quickly and after some sustained pressure equalised. The Ancients continued to play measured football using the ball well, but started to show signs of fatigue. South Bank were able to make a number of changes and maintain their pressure, finally winning 4-1. Norton however showed good team spirit and work ethic, playing some good football without reaping any further reward.
This was the fourth cup tie the Norton Under-13 B have won already this season, and they did it in fine style with a superb 5-2 performance against their older under-14 opponents Hebburn Reyrolles. The back four were again outstanding in front of keeper Josh Edon, who pulled off two magnificent saves in the first fifteen minutes to keep the scores level. Norton were having all of the possession and both Liam Hardman and Ross Davison worked tirelessly in the centre. Norton sprung into life when Darren Appleton fed Jamma on the halfway line. He produced a great right wing run and finish, and soon afterwards captain Adam Iveson out-jumped the tall Reyrolles defence to head home Ancients' second from a corner. After the break, Reyrolles pulled one back, then Danny McAvoy rounded their keeper only to shoot wide. Centre forward Cooky then had an identical chance, beat the keeper and blasted home. Macca got on the end of a Jamma through ball to score Norton's fourth with a fine finish, only to see Reyolles pull back another through their big striker. Michael Bell influenced the game down the left and he absolutely shone, linking up with Cooky & Macca to cause Hebburn all kinds of problems, culminating in Cooky going clear to score Norton's fifth. Jon Stephenson came on at half time and turned in a superb central display, producing the pass of the game to put Cooky through one on one, but this time he rolled the ball wide of the post to miss out on a hat-trick. Again, praise from the manager goes to the outstanding back line of Simmo, Ivo, Azza & Steve Atkinson, who give the side such a solid foundation to play from, and who came through a real test in this game.
Drawn away from home to Jarrow Monkton Athletic in the Durham Cup, Norton Under-14s started off well with good work on and off the ball. They squandered numerous chances to take the lead , but to no avail. Jarrow Monkton also made chances to take the lead but for a fine performance from the Norton defence they would and should have scored. The breakthrough came after a fine ball from Graham Wilson playing on the right wing to Anton Fisher to give him his first goal of the season 1-0 at half time. Jarrow pushed up in the second half creating chances for their forwards to level the score but once again an outstanding game from Dale Mulligan, Ritchie Peacock ,Joel Brennan and Matty Moore at the back kept the home team out. Towards the end of the game Jarrow Monkton threw virtually everyone forward to try and snatch an equaliser, which the nearly got. However as they were committed up field , Norton played the ball through the middle for a fine headed goal from Jonathan Sutcliffe. 2-0 Norton final score. A great game by both sides.
After having two weeks without a game due to losing five of their players, Norton Under-15 B took on Seaton Carew. This was a hard fought game. Norton took the lead through new signing, David Cook. Seaton came back into the game and came close on a few occasions, but for excellent saves from Chris Atkinson, they could have scored at will. Seaton did manage to get an equaliser before half-time from a top corner. The second half was pretty much stale mate. Norton created the better chances through man of the match, Sean Able. The game ended 1-1 with Norton getting their first point of the season.
Norton Under-16s lost their 100 per cent record in a narrow 3-2 defeat away to Riverside Rovers. Rovers opened the scoring and a brilliant save by Jamie Todd kept the score at 1-0. Norton came back and went 2-1 up thanks to two goals from Shaun Taylor. Despite dominating the rest of the game and having numerous chances to make the game safe, Norton were punished with two well taken goals on the break.
Norton Under-10 A got off to a flying start against Brinkburn with an early goal from N Mohun, who tapped the ball home after Brinkburn's goalkeeper dropped the ball after a Norton shot. Norton then went on to play some brilliant and exciting football. Two more goals from Mohan and Garbutt increased Norton's lead. Then came goal of the match which started after M Simcox picked the ball up in his own half, ran on to feed M.Johnson up the wing, who took on a couple of players, crossed the ball in for N Mohun who scored completing his second hat-trick in two weeks. M Craggs scored Norton's fifth goal with a good strike from outside the box in the second half. Brinkburn gained two consolation goals late in the second half.
Stockton Town
Athletic Under-10s came into their game at Norton and Stockton Ancients without the two man of the match performers from the previous week, however they showed no sign of weakness against a well-drilled outfit.
Although Norton dominated the early exchanges they created little against stout defending from Deighton and Dryden. Stockton were not without chances of there own and hard running from Conn and Good in midfield caused problems on the counter attack. Norton took the lead towards the end of the first half and there was no further score in the first half.
Norton added a second directly after the restart and started to dictate the match through the midfield probing of Roth. Stockton continued to look dangerous on the break especially after the introduction of Mcarthur up front.
Although Stockton cannot argue with the result, the scoreline was harsh and their inventive counter attacking in the second half deserved at least one goal.
Man of the match performers were Roth for Norton and Stainsby and Deighton for Stockton.
The Under-11s were playing at California Boys, with the hosts beginning the match with an unbeaten record in the league, while Stockton Town were yet to pick up an away point. The game did not go to form however, as Stockton put in their best performance of the season running out 6-0 winners. The game was keenly contested with Stockton's finishing much the better of the two teams. Stockton's first clean sheet of the season was due to a solid back four and a central midfield consisting of James Strachan and Bradley Heads, who battled and worked hard as the first line of defence.
Stockton's first goal came after only three minutes, Dan Donaldson had a shot well saved by the Cali keeper, Ian Durant picked up the loose ball, pulled it back for Bradley Heads to knock into the corner of the net. Just before half time Dan Donaldson made it 2-0 when running through for a one on one with the keeper.
The second half saw Stockton put yet more pressure on the Cali goal. Adam Layfield scored Stockton's third following a flick on from a corner. The fourth soon followed as Ian Durant rounded the keeper. The fifth goal came from a free kick by Tom Crossen, which resulted in a well saved shot from Adam Layfield as Dan Donaldson tapped in the rebound. Deep into injury time Ian Durant ran through to slot home the sixth and final goal of the game. Man of the match was given to Chris Easby for his part in a solid defensive performance.
