The next phase of the Charity Shield started with a plum tie between leaders Metro Church S'land and champions Jesmond Parish Church.
Metro opened the scoring from Gary Thomas with Ben Slater equalising for Jesmond. David Robinson put Jesmond 2-1 ahead then Gareth Hearn and Jon Boyd put Metro back in front. Jason Cochrane squared the match at 90 minutes. Ryan Pender gave Metro the lead and with seconds left Andy Widdrington took the match to penalties which Jesmond won 4-2.
Ewan McGarrity and Kevin Parish gave Airport Church Newcastle a 2-0 lead at Bethshan Christian Centre. Stefan Black and Mark Langdown got Bethshan to 2-2 before half time. Phil Conn put Bethshan in front for the first time, Airport worked hard for McGarrity to square the match at 3-3 in the last five minutes but Andrew Allister scored the winner straight from the kick off for Bethshan.
Jesmond Parish Athenians took the lead from Jason Alexander at Consett Saint Patricks, David Rowe scored from the penalty spot and Andrew Murray gave the Saints a 2-1 lead at the break. Rowe and Murray scored again in the second half and Alexander also got his second as Consett St Patricks won 4-2.
A local derby between St John's Snod's Edge and Lanchester Chapel, Michael Ogle and Keith Purvis scored for St John's with Andrew Sword and Nigel Hepplewhite scoring for Lanchester for a 2-2 scoreline. Chris Dawson and Ogle's second goal made St John's winners 4-2.
Whitley Bay Churches progressed through to the next round with a win at Ryton Churches. Chris Bowler and Chris Stafford put them ahead with Dean Swanston pulling a goal back for Ryton. Andrew Hepple extended Bay's lead and David Hayles got the last goal for a Whitley Bay 3-2 win.
Barry Ward put St Peter's Low Fell in front against Yarm Emmanuel. Steve Reynolds and Rob Laybourne also scored for 3-0.
John Scofield put Middlesbrough Baptists 1-0 ahead at Stockton Baptists Tabernacle in the second half David Clark equalised for Stockton. Scofield got the winner in extra time.
A similar set of events at Jesmond Parish Corinthians with Scott Martin scoring for them, Eldon Tams squared the match for Heaton Hearts but Michael Finney got the winner in extra time for Heaton Hearts.
