Bishop Auckland might not have to do as much work to Dean Street as they first feared.

Bishops were presented with a long list of requirements by UniBond League inspectors last week, although some of those requirements will be easier to achieve than others.

But after checking with the FA, Bishops vice chairman Tony Duffy has discovered that the UniBond League might have been using the wrong standards.

"I've queried a couple of things with the FA," he said.

"For example, we may not have to build an extra step underneath our standing covered accommodation, which will save us a lot of work and money.

"We've also been told by the FA that the UniBond League grading document requires the referees' changing room to be five square metres instead of six, but regardless it will still cause us a problem.

"The FA have told us that the UniBond League have possibly used the wrong grading documents."

Bishops advanced in the league cup on Wednesday night when Andrew Shingleton scored both goals in their 2-0 home win over Blyth.

Spennymoor manager Tony Lee criticised his defence after they were beaten 3-2 at Frickley on Tuesday night.

"They scored with three of their four attacks," he said.

"Considering that their biggest lad was about 5ft 6", they scored with headers and none of them were dealt with by our lads. Some of our defending was rank bad, and I certainly expect it to improve on Saturday."

Moors have now dropped to eighth in the table, and all the clubs below them have games in hand.

Whitby Town set up a first round tie against Hartlepool when they beat Bromsgrove in their fourth qualifying round replay on Wednesday night.

Whitby were behind, before Brian Linighan equalised before half time, then former Boro player Anthony Ormerod got the winner ten minutes from the end.

Whitby manager Harry Dunn said: "We're all looking forward to the Hartlepool game. If form goes to form, then we'll get beat 6-0 - but there's no such thing as form in the FA Cup."

Gateshead chairman Mike Coulson has changed his mind about quitting the post, and intends to carry on after pressure from his family.

The pyramid reshuffle could be threatened by court action from the Rymans League.

The Home Counties based league is seriously considering challenging the decision of the FA to go ahead with the restructuring of the pyramid system by allowing the introduction of a regionalised Conference second division, a year after the national organisation decided to go with a different option.

The Rymans League, which fears that it will be decimated by the new set up has engaged the services of a specialist football barrister to challenge the FA's ruling.

And if the case drags on, that could seriously jeopardise the possibility of the new system going ahead next season.

In another twist, the Conference has demanded that the Rymans League agree to the new proposals inside a fortnight - the day before the case is due to go to the High Court.
