MANAGEMENT and support staff from RAF Fylingdales have raised more than £4,000, to be shared between two charities.
The Yorkshire Air Ambulance Service and Macmillan Cancer Relief both received cheques at a presentation ceremony at the base, where many are employed by the Serco Group, which has a policy of local community and charity support.
Contract manager Hugh Morgan organised a number of money-spinning events, including a cycle marathon, a sponsored walk and a raffle.
Serco has also agreed to providing high-visibility coats for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance crew and office furniture for Macmillan Cancer Relief.
Spokesman Merv Thompson said: "The response reflects the support among staff for such worthwhile charities. Three of the walkers each raised more than £200 in sponsor money."
Yorkshire Air Ambulance fund-raiser Bob Smailes said: "The air ambulance costs £1 million a year to run and relies predominantly on voluntary donations. Without the efforts of organisations like this, we wouldn't be able to maintain a life-saving service."
