THE owner of a puppy which is plagued by poor health is appealing for help to fund a life-saving operation.
Esme, an eight-month-old King Charles spaniel, was taken in by Karen Anderson, of Horden, near Peterlee, because her previous owner was no longer able to look after her.
By chance, Ms Anderson, who rescues and rehomes dogs, had earlier taken in Esme's sister, Ellie.
"It was a total coincidence and I only realised they were from the same litter when I looked at the pedigree papers for both," she said. But the difference between them is incredible. Esme is only 10lb, whereas Ellie is 21lb."
Esme has a heart condition, a growth problem and anaemia.
Ms Anderson is appealing for donations to raise the money needed for a heart operation.
"It has cost £493 so far for a scan and X-rays. We are not sure yet how much the operation will be but we'd be grateful for anything."
The National Animal Sanctuary Support League, in Darlington, has donated £100 and food for Esme.To help contact Ms Anderson on 0191-518 3406.
