YOUNG musicians in Darlington are calling on the council and local venues to give them more support.
Bands in the town say Darlington Borough Council could do more to promote young musical talent and offer financial assistance.
They also say the town has a lack of live music venues and want more pubs to give groups the chance to perform.
Ashley Steffani, from local band We Start Fires, said: "Darlington just hasn't got the facilities or support we need as an up-and-coming band. There seems to be no appreciation of musical talent from the various venues or the council.
"Not being embraced locally means that we have to travel, and that can get expensive, especially if you haven't got financial backing."
Dan Mckeown, of The Offbeats, has set up a live music night, Junction, on the last Wednesday of every month at the Arts Centre.
He said: "We have the talent but the scene needs building up."
Music fan Dave McGuire said Darlington Borough Council should play a more active role in setting up showcase events for bands and subsidising the hiring of equipment.
