AN exhibition of contemporary book and magazine illustrations opens on Saturday.
The Images 27 exhibition at the Bowes Museum, in Barnard Castle, includes original artwork from the UK Images annual published by the Association of Illustrators.
The popular images have been in a variety of publications and the exhibition features award-winning works including commissions for BP, Royal Mail, Bloomsbury and the national press.
Viv Reid, exhibition manager at the Bowes museum, said: "The exhibition shows drawings used in a variety of publications from children's and adult books to the daily papers. We often take these works for granted, but they are an expressive and often beautiful art form."
The title of the exhibition acknowledges the 27th anniversary of the Images Annual. The book is highly regarded within the illustration industry for showcasing the very best of British illustration, as all its contents are jury-selected.
Images back catalogues reveal not only the outstanding talent of a particular year, but also a remarkable resum of the trends and turbulence that have shaped today's industry.
The exhibition runs until January 4, 2004. For further details call (01833) 690606 or visit www.bowesmuseum. org.uk.
