POLICE are trying to solve the mystery of a girl seen walking barefoot through a town in her pyjamas.
The girl, thought to be aged about ten, was spotted walking through Tynemouth, North Tyneside, at about 10.45pm on Monday night.
Police launched a search involving the North-East Area Support Unit's helicopter and dog section, but found nothing.
A girl's mountain bike was found on the roof of a garage, but police do not know if there is any connection. Yesterday, they were carrying out house to house inquiries.
A spokesman for the Northumbria force said there had been no reports of a girl matching the youngster's description going missing.
"The primary concern is to establish the safety of the girl rather than the circumstances surrounding why she was out alone.''
