ON-LOAN Middlesbrough right-back Danny Mills has escaped censure over his on-field clash with Wolves duo Lee Naylor and Paul Ince.

But the FA yesterday confirmed that the tunnel fracas which followed the fiery encounter at the Riverside Stadium 12 days ago is under investigation.

Mills was branded "an idiot'' by former Boro skipper Ince after sparking controversy in his side's 2-0 victory.

The England defender confronted Naylor after being fouled and, while Ince stepped into the debate, Juninho took a quick free-kick to set up Gaizka Mendieta for the opening goal.

Mills was then booked after goading Naylor by celebrating in front of him. Naylor later insisted that Mills had elbowed him earlier in the game.

Wolves' former Sunderland midfielder Alex Rae was sent off in the closing stages for a second foul on Mills.

Referee Steve Dunn detailed the tunnel incident in his match report, but the FA are happy that events on the pitch were dealt with by the Bristol official.

An FA spokesman said: "The referee has dealt with the on-field incidents; what we are looking at are the incidents in the tunnel.

"We are investigating the incidents in the tunnel and we are just waiting for a couple more statements before we decide how we proceed. We can't mention the names of any individuals involved at this time.''

Both Boro and Wolves could be charged for failing to control their players.

Meanwhile, Boro defender Franck Queudrue will learn his fate on Monday when he faces a charge of "violent behaviour'' for his role in the sending-off of Southampton striker Kevin Phillips.

The FA have confirmed the date for the hearing into the incident which led to Phillips receiving a red card in Boro's 1-0 victory at St Mary's on September 27.

TV replays appeared to show Queudrue treading on the back of Phillips' leg before the former Sunderland star reacted by kicking out at the Frenchman.

While referee Barry Knight banished Phillips, he admitted in his match report that he was "concerned'' he had missed the incident which triggered the exchange.

The FA's video advisory panel recommended that a charge should be levelled at Queudrue, who has requested a personal hearing to plead his innocence as he faces the threat of a three-match ban.

Queudrue was making just his third appearance after serving a five-game suspension carried over from last season, when he was the only Premiership player sent off three times.

The left-back, shown the red card four times in all since he joined Boro from Lens two years ago, maintains he is "not a dirty player'' but has vowed to clean up his act.

Boro manager Steve McClaren is likely to accompany Queudrue to the hearing, which is understood to be scheduled for a Manchester hotel.
