A bus driver has been treated in hospital after being struck by a pool ball, thrown the cab window as he drove across Teesside.
Cleveland Police say the incident could have had "disastrous consequences'' - and could even have killed the driver and any passengers on board. A Force spokesman said catching those responsible was a priority.
Bus operators Arriva have described the attack as "despicable''.
The ball shattered the cab window of the Service 66 bus as it travelled along The Greenway close to Beresford shopping centre at Middlesbrough, on its way to Nunthorpe, just after 8pm on Thursday night.
The driver, who has not been named, was treated at Middlesbrough's James cook University Hospital for cuts around one eye. Police are urging witnesses to the incident to telephone the Force on (01642) 303126. .
