YOUNGSTERS from Stockton gave the environment a helping hand during their half-term holiday as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award.
The group took part in an expedition to Cod Beck Reservoir, at Osmotherley, for their Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award after seeing how spoiled the area was with litter during an earlier visit.
Dominique Campbell, Laura Allen, Stephanie Cole and Andrew Smith spent two days working on the project, and removed more than 50 bags of rubbish from the site.
These included discarded barbecues, an inflatable dinghy and motorcycle parts.
June Welch, Duke of Edinburgh's Award officer for Stockton Borough Council's youth service and the group supervisior said: "This was a very successful venture and the young people gained immense satisfaction from taking part.
"Opportunities like this give children the chance to feel good about themselves by putting something back into the countryside and we are currently working with Yorkshire Water and other environmental agencies about other projects we can work on together."
