Gold for Billingham pair: Rebecca Leighton, 14, and Michele Gray, 14, from the Billingham Forum Lifesaving Club, struck gold at the RLSS National Lifesaving championships on Saturday.
Held at the International Swimming Pool in Sheffield, Rebecca and Michele took part in the junior girls pairs section of the championships alongside 17 other pairs from all over the United Kingdom who took part in this section.
Rebecca and Michele won gold in the Aquatic Incident section of the champion which is the blue ribbon event of the championships.
This is an outstanding result for the two young girls from Billingham who have worked very hard for the championship over the past six weeks since qualifying after the regional finals where they also won gold to become North of England champions.
This is the first time the girls have worked together as a pair at such an event at both girls go to different schools in Billingham. At times it has been hard for the girls to find time to train together with school timetables and homework. This is why this is an outstanding result for the pair.
