Richmond Town: Richmond Town Under-8s played their first match away to Barnard Castle.
A confident display by the Richmond team saw them run in ten goals without reply. Some excellent finishing by Adam Cocks saw him notch eight of the goals courtesy of some good work by his team mates. Dylan Wardale and Matthew Charlton made up the other scorers. Steven Male, the Richmond Town goalkeeper, made an excellent penalty save to deny Barnard Castle a late consolation goal.
Richmond Under-9s travelled to Northallerton with the hope that they would continue their run of good results. Two matches were played side by side to enable everyone to get a full game and more importantly keep warm on a cold morning. The first team led by Will Henderson came out clear 6-1 winners. Goals came from Sam Witty, Harry Vernon and Lewis Stabler. Northallerton were overawed by the sheer power and pace of the Richmond side .Defender Jack Charlton and goalie Tim Holmes both had good games.
The second match was lead by team captain Emma Morris who was playing out of position as goalkeeper. Although not having the same size and power of the first team these Little Yorkshire Terriers worked constantly, harassing Northallerton and not allowing them to steal the ball. An excellent team display and the match ended 1-1.
Richmond Under-11s were away to Catterick Village.
Richmond started off strong with William Gardner being put through by Chris Garside to score Richmond's first goal and William Gardner added a second when the Catterick defence was one again opened up. Man of match was Jordan Henry.
Richmond Under-13s played Kirkbymoorside in the County Cup winning 24-0. Thirsk Falcons
THE Under-12s travelled to Catterick Village for a cup tie against Dales Diamonds. Thirsk kicked off and straight away Joe Barwick had a shot at goal but put it wide. Thirsk pressed again and Barwick gave David Mosley an easy tap in to give Thirsk the lead.
Thirsk still pressed and Liam Cook saw Diamonds' keeper off his line kicks a high lob making it 2-0 to Thirsk. Thirsk's Mosley went down the right and put a cross across the goal but there was nobody to put it in.
Mosley hit the crossbar and Barwick put the rebound high, then Diamonds counter and with some good passing scored. Liam Cook, with a low shot, scored his second of the match making it 3-1 to Thirsk.
Diamonds got a free kick and Dan Orchard for Thirsk made a crucial clearence.
Thirsk were then awarded a free kick which resulted in a corner but Diamonds managed to clear. Thirsk lead 3-1 at half time.
The second half again saw Thirsk on the attack, Diamonds broke up the attack and countered but their shot was wide.
Mosley again made his second and Thirk's fourth. Diamonds didn't give up and in the last few minutes of the game had a couple of shots at goal but were unable to add to their score. The final score was 4-1 to Thirsk. Man of the match was Barwick after an excellent performance by the whole team, a first game of the season for Nicky Patterson and a welcome back from injury for Joseph Saunders.
Brompton
Brompton Under-12s were looking forward to another exciting Cup game, after a close 7-5 extra time defeat in the TJFA League Cup earlier in the season. They hoped to have better fortune at home in the North Riding Cup, once more against a team from a higher Division - Nunthorpe B.
Into a strong wind in the first half Brompton were under constant pressure, Nunthorpe going close on with a number of shots just off target. Tom McCrae in the Brompton goal was kept busy and saved well from a succession of corners.
The whole defence worked really hard, but just as the home team looked like they would incredibly get through to half time goalless, Nunthorpe's possesion in the home half finally paid off with a good shot into the corner of the net.
After the turnaround, Nunthorpe started strongly again, but Brompton gradually gained in confidence as the defence gained the upper hand. They came close two or three times. Midway through the half, Cooper ran onto a long ball and was pulled back as he approached the penalty area. From the resulting free-kick, Ewan Lister hit a great 20 yard shot over the wall into the top corner. The rest of the half was frantic, with both teams going close.
Substitute Jason Wallin ran onto a loose ball in the visitors box, and with his first touch of the game volleyed against the post. Normal time ended with the teams locked at 1-1.
In the first half of extra time both teams pushed hard, the Brompton team feeling more and more able to match their opponents. Steven Mullen ran in on goal twice but both shots were smothered by the Nunthorpe keeper. After the teams had turned round, the home team quickly took the lead, with three players being in position to take advantage of a through pass. Wallin had the final touch to put the home team ahead. Nunthorpe looked for an equaliser, but a long ball out of defence was seized on by Mullen, who completed a fine performance by slotting wide of the visitors keeper.
Brompton Under-10 A travelled to Middlesbrough to play Kader FC in a game which saw a sound performance from Brompton if rather unmemorable in this 1-0 defeat which saw Kader score from the only chance in open play throughout the whole game.
The game followed a familiar pattern for Brompton with David Holmes and Robert Maclean solid in defence and good attacking runs from Chris Holmes and Thomas Armstrong, both lively as ever in midfield. These two penetrating mid-fielders suffered from heavy challenges and gained little protection from these. A particularly robust challenge saw Chris Holmes bundled to the ground attempting to beat a fourth Kader player on a particularly penetrating run down the left midfield. David Foster came on as substitute and performed well in this central mid-field role.
Another Brompton attack broke down on the edge of the box with Kader being penalised, Mark Watkinson struck the ball well from the free kick which the goal-keeper just managed to parry past his right hand post. The first half ended with Brompton missing a penalty and going into the break trailing 1-0.
The second half was played out with end-to-end play seeing Joe Richards taking over the goal-keeping role from Lee Taylor and the debut in mid-field of James Rutherford. James showed some lovely touches in this half and indicates promise for future games. Final score 1-0 to Kader FC.
Brompton Under-10 B took on Ormesby B and within the first few minutes Brompton went ahead through a George Austick goal. After this Brompton attacked at every given opportunity totally dominating the first half.
Further goals followed from Welham and Lowther to make it 3-0 at half time to Brompton.
The second half saw Ormesby counter attack straight away and some poor defending gifted them a goal. Brompton again surged forward and Ormesby struggled to cope with Brompton's rampant midfield. The rest of the half saw Ormesby attempting to stop Brompton in their half but Brompton's determination and flair resulted in goals for J.Howell, G.Austick from a curling corner and a further three goals for Oliver Lowther.
The pick of these was a determined run down the left wing before unleashing a scorching shot from outside the area giving the keeper no chance. The game ended Ormesby 1, Brompton 8.
Brompton Under-16s have this season made a habit of being drawn away in the cup to teams from higher divisions and invariably though it brings out the best in them and their match at Whinney Banks was no different.
The game was only three minutes old when Eddleston, in his new forward position, lobbed the goalkeeper but saw his effort drift wide of the post.
Five minutes later Glahome set Marley free and his cross was hit goalwards by Eddleston but the Whinney Banks goalkeeper held on to the effort.
Whinney Banks had the better possession but Brompton seemed to create the clearer chances and on 17 minutes Marley attempted to chip the keeper but didn't get the ball high enough. Whinney Banks took the lead after 30 minutes when a good through ball left the forward one on one with the goalie and he finished well.
Brompton again went forward with promise and Glahome had a log shot and then an effort sent over the goalkeeper that both just went wide of the post.
Brompton got the equaliser their efforts deserved after ten minutes of the second half.
James Marley and Paul Eddleston linked well to beat the offside trap and Eddleston prodded the ball into the net.
Whinney Banks bounced back and scored goals in the 20th and 30th minute of the second half to take a 3-1 lead. Again Brompton hit back when a Marley free kick was sent goalbound and Captain for the day Pinkney challenged the goalkeeper for the ball which broke loose to stand in left back Adamson to slot home.
Whinney Banks sealed the game with five minutes to go when they got a fourth goal and the game ended with Brockhurst shooting at the Whinney Banks goalie.
Another spirited performance by Brompton saw Marley edge the man of the match from Glahome, while Pinkney and Eddleston also pushed close for the honours but this was a good team performance and the lads should not be too disappointed with the outcome
