Bedale Club Dinner: One of the major social events in the club's calendar was held in the clubhouse on Friday and this year attended by not only captains of other clubs and union officials but also the president of Yorkshire, Dennis Trickett and the president of the Harrogate Union John Shaw.
The dinner was preceded in the afternoon by a round of golf for the captains and presidents in somewhat damp conditions which was won by the club chairman Ian Smith.
Following the dinner the toast to the club was proposed by the Yorkshire president, who showed by his research that he knew a great deal about the history of the club. The captain David Blades, in his reply, thanked all members who had supported him over the year and reviewed his year of captaincy, highlighting the performance of Kevin Ward. The vice captain Tony Howard in proposing the toast to the guests and in a change from tradition having identified them and asked them to make as small contribution to the speeches. The evening was rounded off with an amusing speech by the guest speaker Mike Farrell who responded with the toast to the guests.
Seniors
A Stableford competition this week for the elderly gentlemen with good scoring as usual.
Leading scores: 41 points Jim Brunskill (21), 38 Harry Young (21, 37 Roger Hole (16) and Alan Wilkins (16). Card countback required.
Juniors Black Trophy
Played in a Stableford format this competition was won with an excellent 45 points by Daniel Winterbottom.

Ladies Dales Alliance
A new competition for the ladies and played under a similar format to the gentlemens. This competition in its first year is played between Bedale, Ripon City, Catterick, Thirsk and Northallerton and Romany Golf Club, although other clubs have expressed interest, a matches are played at each other's clubs by three teams of players. The secretary of the organisation is Marilyn Dawson from Bedale Golf Club.
The first round of this winter competition in a Stableford format was played at Bedale and was won by Catterick with 104 points, narrowly beating Bedale who returned 203 points, followed by Ripon City 89, Romanby 87 and Thirsk and Northallerton 84.
Team prizewinners were: 38 points Marilyn Dawson and Dorothy Hill (Bedale), Brenda Cawley and Marion Palmer (Catterick). Card countback required. 36 points Pauline Morris and Julie Standen (Bedale).
The next round will be played at Ripon City this month.
