Premier Division, Belle Vue Old Boys 1 Blackhall Hardwick 3: Hardwick were made to work hard for their victory by Belle Vue, but eventually proved to be too strong.
Matthew McBurney's fine through ball created the first for Martin Walton but Vue equalised from the penalty spot.
Martyn Brown put Blackhall in front with the goal of the game and added his second five minutes from time. Best for the visitors in a battling performance were Brown and McBurney.
Supporters Club 4 Shakespeare 1
John Payne opened the scoring for the home side from a good run and exchange of passes and David Smith turned well before driving home well. This spurred on Shakespeare who pulled a goal back from a superb 25 yard free-kick by Michael Archer which gave the keeper no chance. Chris Birkbeck added the third from Andy Braithwaite's lay-off and Payne completed the scoring after a mazy run. Malcolm Kelly and keeper Andy Vasey were best for the visitors.
First Division
Corner Flag 2 Cricket Club 3
Once again Flag paid the penalty for a poor first half which saw them turn round three goals adrift. An old-fashioned half-time team-talk spurred them into action and they reduced the arrears with Paul Clouston's header and Nicky May's twice taken penalty.
Odessa 1 Tunstall Old Boys 5
The home side got off to a flyer when Shaun Winwood scored from the spot. They had more chances but failed to convert them and Tunstall equalised before the break through Ryan Parker's penalty. Old Boys went ahead when Andrew Harland headed home and he Parker added another after great interplay with Harland. Their fourth showed amazing awareness and skill as the Odessa keeper's long clearance was returned over his head fully 65 yards by Micky Pearce. Chris Tarn slotted home the last for Old Boys.
Office 6 Ye Olde Durhams 5
Durhams took an early lead but man of the match John Hind raced through and scored the equaliser. Chris Francis set up the second for Kev Kidd and John Fothergill's 40 yard through ball created Hind's second. Office allowed the visitors to draw level and were indebted to Andy McRae's penalty save which prevented them from going behind. John Robinson sent Hind clear to chip the keeper from 40 yards and Francis unselfishly squared for the striker to bag his fourth. Durhams fought back and drew level with two quick goals. The game looked to be heading for a draw till Hind hit a 30-yarder into the top corner.
Throston Wand. 11 Woodcutter 1
Cutter started well and took the lead after five minutes from Michael Farrow's great volley, but it became pretty much one-way traffic after that. Tommo Hudson and Dean Hustler helped themselves to hat-tricks as Throston took control. Chris Leighton bagged a pair - a header and the best goal of the game, chipping the keeper from the edge of the box. Gary Moore, keeper Dave Kitchen and Liam Johnson completed the scoring.
Travellers R. 1 Greatham Bull & Dog 2
Greatham edged an even first half played and took the lead with Andrew Sanderson's 30-yard lob. They eventually found the second when Chris Watson powered his way through to drive home. Travs did pull a goal back, a fine effort from Phil Batty, but couldn't find an equaliser.
Second Division
Clarendon 6 TMD 4
Clarendon took a first minute lead when Chris Barlow nodded home Paul Jewson's long throw but the visitors struck back when Chris Woods' 20-yarder bounced over Paul Parkinson's despairing dive. Worse was to follow for the home side when Brendan Deer scored but on the stroke of half-time Chris Cooke beat three men to fire past Lee Hammond. Marty Waggott restored Clarendon's lead from Barlow's through ball and the latter added the fourth from Andy Normanton's cross. It was 5-2 when Normanton nodded home from close range and Waggott raced clear to finish coolly for the sixth. TMD scored from the spot and Wood added his second.
Engineers 2 Owton Lodge 3
Lodge took the lead through Kerry Freeman but couldn't build on their start and Stuart Robson equalised before the break. Darren Wilding put Lodge ahead with a great volley but again Engineers fought back and Marty Ryan equalised. It looked like the points would be shared but Mick Eglintine fired in the winner with just minutes on the clock.
Fens 2 Stranton 3
Andy Carter hit a hat-trick, opening the scoring before David Millican equalised with a looping shot, but restored their advantage before half-time. He completed his hat-trick from the spot but Fens pulled another back with Chris Archer's penalty to set up a tense finish, but the Stranton defence held on. Tommy Anderson was best for the winners with Archer starring for Fens.
King Johns Tavern 6 Moorcock 2
Tavern dominated much of the game and but for a fine display by Mick Robinson in the Moorcock goal could have run up a cricket score. Ian Varley bagged a hat-trick, well supported by David Fetcher with a brace and Alan Cox fired home the other goal from the edge of the box. Mark Stewart scored consolation goals in each half for Moorcock.
St Francis 2000 2 St Josephs 1
the home side took the lead: Phillip Bassett headed home Martin Honeyman's cross and added another before half-time. The second half was a dull affair until Peter Brackstone's strike ten minutes from time set up a tense finish.
Durham County Cup
Athletic Rugby 3 Boldon Shack 2
The visitors started the stronger and took the lead through a own goal. Athletic equalised ten minutes later when Stephen Manson was fouled in the box; Alan Hoey scored from the spot. Manson's superb pass paved the way for Phillip Nicholson's stylish finish, and the youngster created the third for Hoey. Boldon managed to pull one goal back.
Blackhall Cricket Club 0 Houghton Glendale SC 3
The Cricketers started confidently and went close several times and it was midway through the second half before the visitors broke down the Blackhall defence. The home side then laid siege to the Houghton goal but were denied by two superb saves and the visitors added insult to injury by scoring twice within a minute to guarantee their progress.
GW Horners 5 Welfare Cosmo. 3
Three times Welfare found themselves a goal behind, but each time they equalised, through Lee Stoddard's header, Chris Murray's 25 yard lob and another header from Stoddard. They missed chances in the second half and eventually conceded two on the break.
Stockton Hardwick SC 1 Burn V. Cl. 1
(Burn Valley Club won 3-0 on penalties)
Hardwick took advantage of a defensive mistake to take an early lead and this unsettled Burn Valley. It wasn't until the second half that they started to show their true form and Andrew Watts eventually equalised from the spot. Both sides had chances to win but it took a dramatic penalty shoot-out to separate them.
S'land Wavendon Athletic 1 Rov. 4
Lee Keers set Rovers on their way into the next round scoring after a goalmouth scramble. Michael Ford was felled as his pace took him into the box and Andy McKenna scored with ease from the spot. With Keers and Hughes winning the midfield battle, Rovers dominated and Keith Hutchinson added the third. Wavendon did pull a goal back and piled on the pressure but Gary Easson kept his side in the game with two excellent saves. Keers crowned a fine performance to put the game beyond reach, finishing from eight yards.
Washington Albany 0 Sports Bar 2
Sports Bar pressed from the off and only good goalkeeping prevented them from taking an early lead. Their pressure eventually paid off when a corner was only cleared as far as Ian McNeany on the edge of the box who hit an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net. Robbie Buckley and Glen Stewart ran the midfield, so much so that Albany didn't have a shot on goal in the second half. Sports Bar doubled their lead when good work down the right by Brian Littlewood set up Liam Watts who fired home from 20 yards.
West Park 2 South Shields R'side 6
The first half was evenly fought and they twice led through an own goal and later when Jamie Arthur finished well. On both occasions the visitors responded well and equalised. Riverside scored two quick goals in a decisive spell on the hour mark, and added two more as Park chased the game to give a rather unflattering scoreline.
Coundon 1 Lion Hillcarter 4
The home side took the lead when slack defending allowed Shoulder to score from close range. Darren Atkinson replied with two superb goals to give Lion a 2-1 lead. Atkinson failed to complete his hat-trick from the spot, but Pitman was on hand to grab the third. The visitors were in full control with Lee Dixon crashing home the fourth.
* Corporation Welfare lost 5-1 to Easington Officials.
