FROM this newspaper 100 years ago. - The autumn of 1903 will stand out as one of extraordinary and continuous rains. From 21st September to 3rd November rain fell every day except on October 3rd, that is, with one exception, 43 consecutive days. The total rainfall for October was almost equal to four months average, beating all records and in September and October more rain fell than in the whole of 1902.
From this newspaper 50 years ago. - Motor cyclists and motor enthusiasts will converge on Richmond in large numbers on Saturday for the annual Scott Trial in Swaledale. There have been a number of near accidents at previous events and the request for careful driving on the part of spectators made by the organisers is timely. There have been numerous complaints about speeding on the road from Catterick Bridge to Catterick Camp. Drivers of motorcycles and motor cars are asked by police to adhere to a safe speed or risk danger to themselves and passers-by.
From this newspaper 25 years ago. - Guisborough Beat Talented Magpies. Despite almost constant pressure from a talented Newcastle United Reserve side, Guisborough Town scored a fine win in their Northern Alliance League Game on Saturday to put them squarely at the top of the league for the first time since they joined at the end of last season. Newcastle had far more of the game in terms of ball possession, but it was Town who scored the goals, and that, of course, is what the game is all about; they won 2-1.
