AN initiative to promote healthy lifestyles is being launched in Stockton.
The strategy will see Stockton Borough Council's healthy lifestyle team embark on a five year programme.
Staff will work with other health professionals and use physical activity to help clients.
Team members are also launching a six-week education and exercise programme for people suffering from type- 2 diabetes.
The aim of the programme is to promote health and prevent the long-term, and often life-threatening, complications that can arise from poor diabetes control.
Care, appropriate resources, education and a physical activity programme will all be part of the support for clients with the condition.
The programme will take the form of a two-hour session once a week, incorporating light exercise, informal discussion and support from a health care professional.
Andrea Hogg, the council's healthy lifestyles co-ordinator, said: "This long-term strategy will help residents of the borough.
"We are particularly keen to place emphasis on people who are at risk of coronary heart disease, to help them to ensure they have all the knowledge possible for a healthier life."
