AN archaeological dig has taken place during the past week to unearth a piece of history.
The event has been taking place at Preston Hall Museum, Eaglescliffe, Teesside, led by Tees Archaeology, to unearth the remains of the former Darlington to Stockton Railway trackbed.
Previous pieces of trackbed that have been uncovered have been preserved as a footpath through the hall's grounds.
On Saturday, youngsters were invited to the museum to take part in open dig sessions.
It is hoped any remains that are uncovered will be turned into footpaths.
