OFFICE and business park developer Akeler has been named as the preferred developer of the £100m Rainton Bridge South Business Park.
There has been widespread national interest in the 55-acre Sunderland site, which could bring more than 4,000 jobs to the city.
The appointment is a coup for Akeler, which also developed the award-winning Doxford International in Sunderland.
Doxford International, developed in a partnership between Akeler and City of Sunderland, has attracted some of the world's best-known companies employing almost 7,000 people.
Akeler has also developed a number of business parks across the UK, including sites in Leeds, Manchester, Glasgow and the Thames Valley, and internationally in Portugal and Germany.
Rainton Bridge is a joint venture between the City of Sunderland, English Partnerships and Tyne and Wear Development Company.
