VILLAGERS could see their council chairman get a new hairstyle this weekend.
Sherburn Parish Council chairman Stuart Walton, who is also a Liberal Democrat Durham city councillor, is allowing the winner of a draw to do what they want to his hair.
And he has vowed to wear the results for a week.
Mr Walton is hoping to raise money for Sherburn Oak (Outdoor Activity for Kids), which aims to raise £100,000 for a play park.
He will undergo his transformation on Saturday, at a coffee morning at Sherburn Community Centre, from 9.30am to noon. He will also receive a cheque for £1,100 from his daughter, police officer Vicky Coxon, who had her hair cut for the charity.
He said: "I'll have raised more than £250 with my haircut. I don't know yet what sort of hairstyle I'll end up with. I don't give a monkeys - I'll just be glad when it is all over."
Entertainers are playing a charity concert at Sherburn Workingmen's Club on Thursday next week at 8pm. The line-up features comedians Rudi West and Lynnie Larkin, Pop Idol contestant Mark Allen and compere Jim Tait.
"It's marvellous people are donating their time for the charity. It should be an excellent night," said Mr Walton.
Tickets, £2.50, are available from the club or from Mr Walton on 0191-372 0545.
