TWO beat bobbies have proved they are on the ball by netting new strips for young footballers.
PC Steve Shotton and PC Nigel Craig, who works from an office at the Hermitage School, in Chester-le-Street, have secured £300 of equipment after applying to Premiership League sponsors Barclays.
Through its Football Foundation Junior Kit Scheme, the bank provided 12 football strips, balls, water bottles and bibs for footballers at the Hermitage School and one of the comprehensive's feeder schools, Newker Primary.
PC Shotton, who is based at Chester-le-Street police station and patrols the west beat in the town, said: "We are delighted Barclays have supported the youngsters in this way.
"The kit is similar to Manchester United's, comprising a red top with black collar, black shorts and red socks."
