Cleadon SC are clearly the surprise side of the season and manager Doug Key reckons they can go all the way after climbing into second position with last week's victory at Barnard Castle Glaxo.
Currently, Cleadon are just six points adrift of leaders Birtley Town and have two games in hand on their rivals having won 11, drawn four and lost just two of their 17 fixtures.
"It has been a bit of a fairy tale for us," claimed Key who has basically the same squad as last season.
"I believe our success is down to all the hard work which was put in during the close season and which has been sustained week in, week out since our first match.
"Basically, we have a young side who have really gelled. The camaraderie is marvellous and if we continue to compete, show the right attitude and work for one another, then we will be okay," added Key.
The manager, who pointed out that he listed five substitutes at Barnard Castle, did not disguise his excitement at the club's rise in fortunes and with a big squad claims that the testing times which lie ahead can be met.
"I have a squad of about 20 and despite the fierce competition for places, I have not lost a single player. We took 17 away last Saturday, 16 either played or were on the bench and one lad was injured so I believe we are well equipped.
Key, whilst acknowledging the contribution made by the players, was quick to point out the input of the ex-Boldon CA player Ian Potts, who takes charge of training.
"Ian has been a good signing and he is really doing well with the team. But it is a two-way dialogue and every Tuesday we sit down for half an hour and let the players talk about the previous match. It helps them and it also assists Ian and me in planning for the next match if we know what the players are thinking," concluded Key.
Birtley Town still lead the table but Stokesley SC, North Shields and New Marske are all in challenging positions, along with Cleadon.
Stokesley, who reached the Quarter Finals of the North Riding County Cup last weekend, are third on goal difference from North Shields. The pair have both played three games fewer than Birtley as have New Marske who are 11 points behind the leaders.
