Last night, police at Middlesbrough were questioning a man in his 40s after he was arrested on suspicion of murder.
A force spokesman said police were treating the death of Mr Evans as murder.
"Officers were called to the property shortly before 6.30pm . . . after reports of a dispute between two males," the spokesman said.
"Inside, they found a man who had suffered serious injuries. He was later pronounced dead by a police surgeon."
A post-mortem examination showed that Mr Evans had died beause of a stab wound to the neck.
Police are anxious to speak to anyone who was in St Barnabas Road at about 6pm on Wednesday, who may have witnessed an altercation between two men.
