STUDENTS and tutors at Bishop Auckland College donned their most unusual footwear yesterday at the end of a packed week of fund-raising events in aid of BBC Television's Children In Need charity appeal.
The college, which has 13,000 full-time, part-time and outreach students, threw itself into the annual charity appeal by hosting a different activity every day this week.
Yesterday was Funky Feet Day, with staff and students paying £1 to wear bizarre choices of footwear from flip-flops to wellies, furry monster feet slippers with fearsome claws and trainers decorated with beads and cuddly toys.
The event helped to take the week's fundraising total to over £500, which college representatives took to the region's main Children in Need event in Stockton last night.
Other events during the week included a sponsored penalty shoot out, a battle of the sexes netball game, a version of Blind Date and a tug of war.
Student support worker Catherine Shaw said: "It is a wonderful campaign to be involved in, and all the better if students and staff can work together for a good cause and have brilliant fun."
