A SCHOOL has collected enough gifts to fill 200 Christmas boxes to be sent to eastern Europe.
Staff at Haughton Community School, in Darlington, have been overwhelmed by the response to the Operation Christmas Child appeal, which they launched at the school a week ago.
Headteacher Mike Davison said he had hoped the school might be able to contribute 100 boxes, but had enough gifts for 200, with more coming in each day.
The whole school has worked on the boxes, with some students wrapping and packing them, and others assembling boxes at home.
Staff from the catering, cleaning, administration and lunchtime supervisory staff also supported the campaign.
Mr Davison said: "This is a great effort by Haughton students and staff, who believe that their Christmas boxes can make a difference."
The boxes are awaiting collection by Samaritan's Purse International and will be delivered to eastern Europe for Christmas.
