ONLINE shopping company amazon.co.uk can now sell millions of rare books over the Internet after forging an alliance with the British Library.

The World Wide Web favourite was previously unable to offer pre-ISBN books as it did not have access to bibliographic catalogues.

But a deal struck with the British Library has enabled more than 2.55m more books to be listed with the website trader.

The details will be used on Amazon's Marketplace feature - a third-party selling point, where shoppers can purchase products put up for sale by members of the public or traders.

Bibliographic data stored at the British Library's facility in Boston Spa, Wetherby, North Yorkshire, will enable owners of the titles to offer them for sale via Amazon.

Works include Gone With The Wind, Enid Blyton's The Enchanted Wood and The Big Noddy Book and titles such as Luther Hess Waring's Political Theories of Martin Luther.
