NEWCASTLE International Airport has revealed the blueprint it expects will take it through to 2016.
The document, dubbed the Masterplan, includes changes that will govern the development of the airport.
Five months of consultation will be held before the details are finalised.
The objective of the plan is to accommodate growth in passenger numbers, freight and airport services.
The development will see
* At least 3,500 jobs created;
* Expansion of the main terminal, runway and taxiway improvements;
* Improved public road access and parking;
* Relocation of the air traffic control tower;
*l Freight and commercial property development, such as additional hotels and a petrol station.
Steve Rankin, regional director of CBI North-East, said: "Good air links across the UK, Europe and the world are increasingly important to companies operating in the region.
"The Masterplan provides a demonstration that Newcastle International Airport is looking well ahead with a view to meeting the needs of regional business."
