PEOPLE living on the coast could get the first glimpse of their new adopted ship today.
Scarborough recently forged a close link with a Royal Fleet Auxiliary Service tanker ship, the Wave Ruler, which will be in the area today and hopes to make an appearance in Scarborough Bay.
Scarborough Borough Council chief executive John Trebble said: "The Wave Ruler is on exercise in the North Sea with HMS Ark Royal and, subject to sea conditions, will hopefully be able to drop anchor in the South Bay during the morning.
"If that goes ahead, the captain and six of his crew will come ashore and make a brief visit to the town hall before the vessel departs in the afternoon."
Scarborough adopted Wave Ruler after the previous adopted vessel, HMS Fearless, was taken out of commission.
