Spraire Lads Under-8s, sponsored by Astra Transport, and Stokesley Jnrs produced some good, entertaining football.
Spraire started the stronger and were a goal up after five minutes when Liam Mckue converted a corner from man of the match, Jonathan Dye. Shortly after, Spraire increased their lead through Craig Edwards looping the ball into the net, once again from a well-worked corner. Stokesley started to pressure the Spraire goal but some good defending by Aiden Mcdonough, Thomas Hudspith and Keenan Alexander, coupled with some great saves from keeper Chris Soanes ensured the lead was maintained at half time. Stokesley started the stronger in the second half and reduced the arrears through Charlie Stokeld. As the game was drawing to a close the Stokesley 'keeper, Michael Howe came up for a corner and volleyed the ball home to bring the scores level at 2-2. Both teams were a credit to the sport and a draw was a fair result in an exciting game.
Spraire Lads Under-9s got their first 'clean sheet' of the season as they earned a 0-0 draw against Coulby Newham. Spraire put on a strong display with goalkeeper, James Basnett putting in another good performance.
It was a slightly shaky start for Spraire but as the first half went on they got stronger with a couple of good attacks. The second half saw some good play from both teams but neither Spraire nor Coulby could break the deadlock.
Spraire still are still searching for their first goal of the season but they have shown a great improvement from the start of the season. Lee Varley was awarded MoM for a great battling display.
Spraire Lads Under-11s endured a topsy-turvy game resulting in a 6-4 defeat at Coulby Newham. Overall it was very entertaining with good football from both sides. Spraire drew first blood with a goal from Sam Pow only for Coulby Newham to equalise.
Dale Johnston then put Spraire 2-1 but Coulby Newham levelled the scores by half-time. Ben Sanderson put Spraire 3-2 into the lead but Coulby Newham equalised again. James Hobson then put Spraire 4-3 ahead only for Coulby Newham to equalise yet again.
Amazingly Coulby Newham then turned the tables to score 2 more goals in stoppage time. Spraire's man of the match was Robert Gilmour for his outstanding performance in the centre of defence.
Spraire Lads Under-13s went down 7-2 at Hartlepool Crest in a game best forgotten. Turning up late, Spraire found themselves 4-0 down by half-time but things did improve in the second half with James Stokel and Johnny Ward grabbing a couple of goals for Spraire, but couldn't prevent Crest helping themselves to another three. Man of the match was Sean Fowler, who produced his best performance to date for Spraire.
Spraire Lads Under-15 A continued their fine run of form with another great performance and a convincing 5-1 win at Tennis World. Both strikers grabbed a brace apiece, with the other coming from good build up play.
This was Spraire's first away win and in turn recorded back to back wins after a tricky start to the season. Scorers were Craig Lavelle (2), Michael Ward (2) and Michael Lavelle. Man of the match was Gary Hill.
Spraire Lads Under-15 C travelled to Yarm this week to try and turnover a Yarm Town B team which had narrowly defeated them 2-1 two weeks previously. As with the first game, Spraire had the better of the opening encounters and justifiably took the lead with a forceful run and shot by centre forward Hufford. Spraire continued to press and went close to adding to their lead on a couple of occasions. However against the run of play a Yarm Town shot rebounded off a post to land at the feet of one of their forwards to level the score.
With half time approaching Spraire capitalised on a corner to regain the lead through centre-half Cornforth. Spraire continued to play the better football in the second half but found themselves pegged back and then in arears through two break away goals. However heads didn't drop and Spraire fought back to level the score at 3-3 via Hufford. Man of the match for Spraire going to Jamie King for a very solid debut at centre-back.
